Films worth watching.

Corrina, Corrina. A heart-warming story about a family devastated by grief and the woman who helps heal the loss. Starring Whoopi Goldberg.

The Book Thief. While subjected to the horrors of WWII Germany, young Liesel finds solace by stealing books. Starring Emma Watson.

A Dog’s Purpose. A dog goes through four lifetimes with different owners through various time periods. During this journey, he steadily understands his real purpose. Make sure you have tissues at the ready.

Penguin Bloom. This film tells the real-life story of Sam Bloom (played by Watts), an athletic young mother who becomes paralyzed. Well worth watching, a very touching and beautifully filmed. A story with a difference, I can promise you it won’t be what you expect.

The Box of Delights. Strange things begin to happen the minute young Kay Harker boards the train to go home for Christmas. I love this. I watch this every Christmas time, it is magical.

From Time to Time. A haunting ghost story spanning two worlds, two centuries apart. While staying at his grandmother’s house during the last days of the Second World War, 13-year-old Tolly is magically transported back in time. Starring Maggie Smith. A beautifully made film.

Twist. A thrilling modern day take on Charles Dickens’ novel, `Oliver Twist’, as a gang of street hustlers plan the heist of the century. This film throws in a few surprises along the way. It’s definitely one I’ll watch again.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie. This is a musical about a teenager (Jamie New) who dreams of becoming a Drag Queen, it is funny but also deals with the issues of discrimination along the way. It is inspired by the actual real life story of Jamie Campbell.

Moxie. Inspired by her mom’s rebellious past & a confident new friend, a shy 16-year-old publishes an anonymous zine calling out sexism at her school. This is a comedy but also covers social issues.

Zarthura: A Space Adventure. Two young brothers are drawn into an intergalactic adventure when their house is hurled through the depths of space by the magical board game they are playing. This is something a bit different, but I enjoyed it. In fact I enjoyed it even more the second time I watched it.
